she’s cut out for more

Today, 100% of the girls in the Datooga tribe are expected to undergo FGM; the practice of altering the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. The Hawega Foundation is changing this reality through educational opportunities for girls.

the branding

As a brandmark, the international female symbol brings global recognition to the word ‘Hawega’ — translating to ‘girl’ which comes from the Datooga Tribe located in eastern Tanzania, a country with over 100 languages. The brandmark was meant to be simple & iconic. It can stand proud as an icon of strength, symbolize empowerment, love & pride in sisterhood; a message that evokes the inner lion in all of us who embrace the traditions of their past while looking ahead to a female driven future.

the mission

putting an end to FGM within the Datooga Tribe by empowering girls through education & community support.
