the good days

“Try to treat the world better than it treated you.”

This quote has lingered in my thoughts ever since I met these two twenty-two-year-old cousins who recently left their lives behind after the devastating earthquake that shook Turkey earlier this year. Despite everything they lived through, they were so warm, kind & welcoming. They shared their story of grinding sixteen-hour workdays during their first month, only to not get paid what they were promised. How they now live day by day & what mattered then, no longer does.

I share this story not to compare the magnitude of our bad days, as we all face our own versions of “one of those days.” It’s in our human nature to be affected by them. I know life is always going to be a balance between the ups & downs. Yet, if your past has taught you anything, I hope it has shown you that the good days wouldn’t hold such profound joy without the contrast of the bad. When you give the good days as much power as the bad — something magical happens. The good keeps getting better. We become stronger, more compassionate versions of ourselves, sprinkling positivity in every relationship & role we hold.

Their story inspired me to embrace the impact of good days not only to transform our own lives but also to help shape how we navigate the world, spreading that good, wherever we may roam.
